7
Publisher Podcast Hero of the Year 2024

Here are some of the industry's driving forces shaping publisher podcast strategies and inspiring others in podcasting.

Ben Youatt, Immediate Media

Shortlisted
About:
Ben is the podcast lead in Immediate Media. And when I say podcast lead, I mean he really leads in developing podcasts in our business and presenting our success and expertise to the wider industry as well. He has also been an evangelist for podcasting across Immediate Media and been instrumental in the launch of numerous other brand podcasts from the likes of Radio Times, Gardeners' World and Good Food. He has worked insanely hard to forge contacts across the industry and is now able to pick up the phone to pretty much anyone we need to speak to and get us a good hearing. Internally, he's built up a really strong podcast production team, which is motivated, focussed and full of great people, so he's heroic on several levels.

Rebecca Matyasovski, ASHRAE Journal and Hot Air

Shortlisted
About:
Rebecca has served ASHRAE Journal for over 20 years as editorial assistant, associate editor, technical editor and now, host of Hot Air. Rebecca has demonstrated incredible journalistic aptitude and skill by interviewing engineers on technologies and practices that many people could not begin to wrap their head around. And she has done so with a "can-do" attitude every month since we have published Hot Air.

Kelly Crichton, National World

Shortlisted
About:
Kelly Crichton is Podcast Producer at National World, formerly JPI Media: one of the UK’s leading regional media organisations. Kelly single-handedly oversees 4 regular podcasts as well as other limited series every year. In most of these cases she produces and edits these podcasts in addition to hosting two of them. Kelly is tireless in her endeavours to promote podcasting across the company and beyond. Despite being a team of one, she has managed to produce award-winning content as well as producing an important and striking documentary, Tainted Blood which aired on Irish National Radio, Newstalk, last summer. Without her enthusiasm, innovation, reliability and perseverance it is difficult to imagine us being where we are today.

His ability of script writing, guest coordination and hosting underscores his prowess in content creation. The Explaining Brazil podcast has become Gustavo's platform to shine, propelling him to the forefront as a leading English-speaking authority on Brazilian politics. His insights are in high demand among global decision-makers, fostering invaluable connections between nations.

Kelly-Anne Taylor, Immediate Media

Shortlisted
About:
The Radio Times Podcast oozes originality – host Kelly-Anne Taylor asks celebrity guests (everyone from Daniel Radcliffe to Nicole Kidman to Will Ferrell) about their lives through the prism of TV. Thanks to thorough, in-depth research, Kelly-Anne incites deeply personal interviews, like none you’ve heard elsewhere. The impact of the podcast is summarised perfectly by one listener: “Great and different format. Kelly-Anne has researched her guests so extensively, she surprises them, builds strong relationships, and thereby achieves friendly discussions with super insights. Careful though. Becomes addictive!” The Radio Times Podcast really is a one-woman show. Kelly-Anne pulls together everything – from securing the interviews, to research, to edit notes, to creating the videos for socials. It is her determination, resilience – and at time pure doggedness – which has meant she has secured exclusive access to those at the very top of their careers – Dame Emma Thompson, Olivia Colman, David Tennant, Richard Curtis, Bryan Cranston to name a few. But, most notably, it is the enthusiasm in which Kelly-Anne approaches her job, and the success of the podcast, that is most admirable, as she brings a 100-year-old print magazine and the digital world together.
